Date: 2008-11-19

USA (MNN) ― On the heels of the recent 20-nation world economic summit in the United States, mission leaders are predicting a down-turn in donations and more.

Some groups are already seeing an impact in short-term missions participation. Jerry Meadows with CURE International says, "This fiscal year we will experience at least a 10-percent decline in our numbers. That's primarily university students, that I would categorize as going on these trips more to learn for themselves about their career path or their calling from God."

http://mnnonline.org/article/11904

what do you think?

	Date: 2008-11-17

I found this article about "Christian" refugees from Mosul...

ISTANBUL, November 14 (Compass Direct News) – In this Turkish city’s working-class neighborhood of Kurtulus, Arabic can be heard on the streets, signs are printed in the Arabic alphabet and Iraqis congregate in tea shops.

In 99-percent Muslim Turkey, most of these Iraqis are not Muslims. And they are not in Turkey by choice. They are Christian refugees who fled their homeland to escape the murderous violence that increasingly has been directed at them.

It is hard to tell how many of Mosul’s refugees from the recent wave of attacks have made their way to Istanbul, but finding these residents here is not hard. A middle-aged Iraqi refugee who fled Mosul five months ago now attends a Syrian Orthodox Church in the poverty-stricken neighborhood of Tarlabasi, where gypsies, transvestites, and immigrants from Turkey’s east live in hopes of a better life in Istanbul.

Declining to give his name, the refugee said there is no future for Christians in Iraq and that nearly everyone he knew there wanted to leave the country. He said the only hope for Iraqi Christians is for Western countries to open their doors to Christian Iraqi refugees.

“We don’t have hope,” he said. “If these doors aren’t opened, we will be killed.”

Since October, violence in Mosul has pushed more than 12,000 Christians from their homes and left more than two dozen dead, according to U.N. and Christian organizations. In the face of Mosul violence, Iraqi Christians flee to Turkey before settling permanently in another country, usually in a place where their family has gone out before them.
http://compassdirect.org/en/display.php ... ement=5687

Many say it could have been written as early as 37 AD (just a few years after). The Gospel of Mark is also thought to have been within 10 years...

	Date: 2008-11-14

the New Testament was written 60 years after the crucifiction of Christ, mostly by eye witness accounts of those who lived, worked, walked and ate with our Lord Jesus Christ and recieved the Holy Spirit from Jesus.Paul who witnessed Jesus after his acension was filled with the Holy Spirit upon his babtism for repentence of sin.the scriptures are inspired by and written with the instruction of the Holy Spirit.the old testament prophets were also filled with the Holy Spirit as they were chosen by God to speak to men, instructing them in what God would have them do.the five books of John in the New Testament and the book of Isaiah in the old testament are clear indications of Gods will for his people.when we study the scriptures we see clearly that they are inspired by the Spirit of our creator and his will for man is to worship HIM only in Spirit and in Truth.if you read the last paragraph of revelation you will see,no scripture other than the bible is authorized by the Holy Spirit.the Testament of Jesus Christ and his teaching is the only authority approved for us as Christians.

	Date: 2008-11-13

we studied the story of the prodigal son recently,we talked about how the pride of the edler brother upon the return and repentance of the younger brother left him as an outsider in the joyful reunion.we discussed several instances where the pride issue could refer to elders in the church refusing to worship with a new member they deemed unworthy or a returning member who had left the church for one reason or another.it reminded us that we should all be on guard against pride and remind ourselves that all sin and come short of the glory of God but though Jesus Christ we are saved if we only repent of our sins and follow Jesus with a pure heart and a willing and repentant spirit.

	Date: 2008-11-13

LOL
traumatic experiences in the last five years.where do i begin.once i became a christian it seemed like the entire world was trying to destroy me,not kidding.
i have to say since i have been witnessing to nonbelievers i have been poisoned twice, cursed at on a daily basis, i have been lied to to my face, lied about behind my back, slandered, harrassed(to the loss of countless jobs),nearly kidnapped, called all sorts of unpleasant and untrue things and even had deacons in my church attempt to hand me over to satan for lies people had been spreading within the church.i confronted the wife of one of the deacons and she repented of her sins against me and has been forgiven but he has yet to do so,please continue to pray for them.the two young women who are not christians who originally started alot of really nasty lies and told all their friends, coworkers, basically anyone who would listen to their lies are still out there lying and have yet to repent of anything or even consider the possibility of serving anything other than their own selfish motives.the really sad part is one of them has four children and those children are witnessing things their mom does and she is the example they have to go by,she neglects them to hang out with her new boyfriends, she uses them for sympathy when she loses work due to her own irresponsible behavior.she doesnt know a thing about them because she never spends time with them but she never hesitates to bring up the fact she has all those kids when she wants to manipulate people into thinking she is some poor helpless female.talk about wanting to punch someone in the face.i have to remind my self daily that Jesus is working in all this chaos and pray for strength to get through it.if i havent been eating or get physically ill it may be due to the fact i scored a 577 on a 300 point stress test, possibly because of the lies people have been telling about me.all i want to do is go to worship the Lord Jesus Christ in spirit and truth in a country i believed to be free of religious persecution, but all i have to do to wake from that dream is turn on the news and watch our newly elected president take away my rights to worship, little by little or all at once who is going to fight for the church when the church wont even fight for its own members.please pray for Gods people everywhere that maybe they wont have to suffer this kind of persecution to live in his kingdom.but if they do we should atleast pray for one another and help each other as much as possible.i am thankful the spirit is so strong in me and is guiding me through this,i may seem crazy to people who dont know alot of what has happened but i know God has a plan for me and i ask daily for his help to just get through the moment.HE is faithful and i know it will be o.k. if i can see past this jumbled up mess to see HIS big picture.

	Date: 2008-11-11

Evangelism here has been quite different than anywhere I have ever been. It is nice, that it is the Arab culture here and the people speak the language - but no one knows how to read.

For many years I have relied heavily on tracts so am having difficulty switching to the Gospel as easily. I have been able to, but it has been more difficult by far.

I keep kicking myself and asking myself why I don't just go up to strangers and ask them for 5 minutes of their time etc.

Right now, we are going at a different approach. We are going to start teaching English for free from the Bible. So that way they are forced to learn the bible. Ah well, one step at a time...

Still gotta find a way to get bibles.

	Date: 2008-11-10

hello all
i have a strange confession,im a little hard of hearing, once i figured this out i started seeing strange things when i was sleeping or in that beta state between sleeping and waking.recently i started seeing pictures, like wallet size photos whizzing by my face so fast i could barely see them and there were strange things behind them, background scenes, scenery.pretty weird.i kept saying they're too fast i cant see and then they were gone.has anyone one else seen these things when they are sleeping?awake?inbetween?i was taking nyquil at the time, maybe it was just a strange side effect
